Overview

For this private tour, your driver and personal tour guide will pick you up from your hotel or cruise ship port in Athens.

Olympia is a small town in the Peloponnese that has been home to the Olympic games for over 3,000 years. It was here where a small area of land was designated for the games and other rites. In this tour, you get to visit the site where they were held, an ancient stadium called the "Olympieion".

You can also see ruins of temples, and shrines on the site, such as Temple of Zeus, studio of Phidias and many more.

Olympia is a sanctuary dedicated to the Greek god Zeus. It was founded in 6th Century BC by King Olympos and his son, Iphitus.
The sanctuary was built on the site of an older temple and it still stands today.

The temple is made of white marble and it has been preserved for centuries through restoration work.

In the end of tour, you'll be taken back to your hotel in Athens. The total duration of the tour will be 12 hours from pick up to drop off.

Archaeological Site of Olympia

The Archaeological Site of Olympia is the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, which were held here for more than one thousand years. The best-preserved ruins there include the Temple of Hera, with its colossal statue; the Philippeion, a circular building with a central dome that once housed the Olympic throne; and the stadium, which has been restored to its original shape. The site is also notable for the number of ancient Greek sculptures that have been found here. This archaeological site is one of many from the ancient world that provides evidence of the Romans' military power. Paintings on rocks and pottery found in what was once a natural cave preserved for more than 2,000 years, give archaeologists a glimpse of what life was like for the early Romans. The paintings show Roman soldiers and horses, with rides and battle scenes.

City Boat Tours wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That's why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.

On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You'll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.

If you see a Badge of Excellence label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through City Boat Tours over a 12-month period.

The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We're always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
