Overview
Come and experience the best hike close to the capital of Wales, Cardiff. This short hike takes you up hills and back in time. You will see the 'Valleys’ South Wales is renowned for and discover how the Welsh black gold, coal, shaped the landscape of today.
Starting in the picturesque Parc Cefn Onn you will see and hear the history of this particular area before ascending to the crest of the Ridgeway. Pen Y Fan, 40 miles to the north and England to the south May be seen. As well as 2 different castles. You will see how industry still affects the landscape today.
Descending to the west different vistas open up through beech woods leading to an historic public house where refreshments may be taken. Before a short walk back to the starting point.

What To Expect
Our experienced guide will lead you through the delights of Parc Cefn Onn, stopping at various intervals, to describe the rich and varied history, flora and fauna, the and the interesting characters that brought about this gorgeous gem in Cardiff.
The hike will continue through woodland and over streams, past ancient ruins and rocky outcrops, bursting out on the animal cropped grassy Ridgeway path. From here the best view in South Wales can be experienced, looking north to the highest peak in The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Pen Y Fan, 40 miles away and south over the Bristol Channel to England.
The descent westward through Beech woodland and bright vistas over Cardiff passing the stylish Old Cottage pub where refreshments may be taken.
