Cozumel Cooking Class
Overview
"Alma" is the word for soul in Spanish and it is how authentic Mexican cooking begins. Join Josefina (or Jeronimo, Josefina's son) in her home kitchen for a 3-hour hands-on small-group cooking class (limited to 6 students). Discover and taste the cuisine of Mexico through Josefina's personal family recipes. During this culinary experience you will also get to visit Cozumel's local market. Deepen your cultural knowledge of Mexico by interacting with the local market vendors and then bringing your ingredients home to cook a well-rounded Mexican meal just in time for siesta!

What To Expect
Participants immerse themselves in authentic Mexican culinary traditions through a hands-on cooking class. The experience begins with a guided tour of the local market, "El Mercado," where attendees learn to select fresh, traditional ingredients. In Josefina's kitchen, students receive instruction on Mexican cooking tools like molcajetes (mortar and pestle), lime presses, tortilla presses, and the comal (a flat griddle). The class covers the preparation of handmade tortillas, traditional sauces, guacamole, side dishes, and more. Participants also have the opportunity to make authentic margaritas or traditional Mexican agua frescas (flavored waters). The session culminates in enjoying the prepared feast, offering a rich taste of Mexican culture.
