What To Expect

Welcome Aboard, Captain!

This Island Hop and Snorkel Safari begins on the docks of the "blue-flag" Marina Puerto Chico where your Mini Boat guides await you. Before launching, each "Captain" and crew will receive complete pre-ride instructions and safety orientation before boarding your fully equipped Mini Boat.

Ladies & Gentlemen...Start your engines!

The fun begins as we clear the breakwater of Marina Puerto Chico, heading North along the bluffs of "Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve”. Along the way, you'll enjoy views of mountains, mangroves, "El Yunque" Rainforest, and Fajardo's 130-year-old Spanish lighthouse.

Icacos Island – Snorkeling at it’s Best!

After a brisk 30-minute cruise, we arrive to our first destination, the uninhabited Icacos Cay. Icacos is part of a group of cays that form “La Cordillera Cays Nature Reserve”.

While in Icacos, get acquainted with your snorkeling gear and practice free diving techniques in preparation for some of the most fascinating snorkeling experiences in Puerto Rico! Discover spectacular coral reef formations, swim among schools of colorful tropical fish, and learn about the wonders of the underwater world, while snorkeling with our professional eco guides.

After a swim, enjoy snacks and refreshments from your cooler on board your Mini Boat.

Palominitos Island – Snorkeling, Swimming & Beach Exploration

After about an hour at Icacos Island, it’s time to start your engines again! Our convoy will set course along the chain of islands to the incredible Palominitos Island. This small island is surrounded by coral reefs and crystal clear turquoise waters, and is most famous for starring on the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”.

During your visit to Palominitos, your guide will tell you about the natural history of the nature reserve and provide information about the surrounding scenery. Relax on the pure white sand beach, take in the lovely view back to the mainland, enjoy a leisurely stroll, build a sandcastle, make a sand angel, sun bathe on paradise, or even take another amazing snorkeling session…most of all, fall in love with our daily “screensaver”!

Back to Marina Puerto Chico

Concluding our time at Palominitos Island, we will board our Mini Boats once more for the journey back to Marina Puerto Chico. Once at the marina enjoy a fresh rinse and have access to the private restroom/shower facilities.

Q: Will I get seasick on Fajardo Mini Boat Snorkel Safari?

A: If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy. Read more Feb 2023
