Once boasting over 70 towers, 14 remain today, creating an open-air museum that transports visitors back in time. San Gimignano is renowned for its saffron, the "Golden Ham," and its white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, produced from the ancient Vernaccia grape variety cultivated on the surrounding sandstone hills.
