Overview

Welcome to the World of Scuba Diving! If you ever thought of what does it feel like to breath under water, to swim like a fish, to float underneath the surface, this is the perfect taster session for experiencing that. This is a class which is the gateway to learning to Scuba Dive and is done in a deep pool, in safe conditions, under the guidance and supervision of a Diving Professional who will introduce you to the world of diving. This will include getting familiar with the equipment first, then a 1.5 hour introductory session of practicing basic skills in the water, on a gradient level, whereby you get shown how to breath underwater, how to be buoyant, how to move forward, inflate and deflate your buoyancy control device, how to get the water out of your mask while under water, etc. This is a fun activity that will give you an insight what it means to become a scuba diver!

What To Expect

We'll pick you up from the front entrance of The Counting House pub, located on St. Vincent Place at 6:00 pm and drive you to the Leisure Centre where the swimming pool is located. Meanwhile you will get to know a Professional Scuba Diving Instructor with 28 years of diving experience behind him, with lots of stories to tell about diving in Scotland, in the British waters and also all over the world. You will find out what is the difference between cold water and tropical water diving, what can you see in the cold seas around the UK and what diving destinations are worth visiting around the world. This is also time for questions you might have which we gladly answer.

When we get to the Leisure Centre, the Instructor will show you the equipment, explain what each part of it does, how it works and how does it need to be assembled. Then we get into diving gear and get into the swimming pool. This is a pool that has a shallow end where we can start practicing and it has a deeper, 2.5 meter end, which it can give you a better feel for being in deep water safely. It all depends on how you feel about it, we'll not push you to go deep or do skills that it might be uncomfortable for you. This is a fun activity, that is on a very gradient scale, so we'll take it slowly and show you some skills that you can try out for yourself. We also take some underwater photos for you to take home and proudly show your friends.

After the taster session in the pool, which will take 1.5 hours, we'll show you how to disassemble the equipment, explain the importance of keeping the equipment clean and stored properly.

Once we're all packed up and dry, we had back to the meeting point, where you get dropped off and bid farewell at 10:00 pm.

The entrance fee to the swimming pool, line rental in the swimming pool, all equipment, including tank fills, transport to and back from the Leisure Centre, is all included in the Experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How soon can I fly in an airplane after Scuba diving?

A: Participants in the Get a taste of Scuba Diving in confined water cannot fly in an airplane within 24 hours of their dive. The main concern with scuba diving and flying is decompression sickness (DCS). Your body needs adequate time during an ascent to off-gas excess nitrogen, or you can form bubbles in your bloodstream, possibly leading to DCS. Read more Jun 2024

City Boat Tours wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That's why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.

On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You'll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.

If you see a Badge of Excellence label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through City Boat Tours over a 12-month period.

The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We're always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
