What To Expect
Feel part of a real crew of researchers by participating in our sailing excursion from Vulcano: we will sail “to discover”, plowing the sea waiting to surprise these wonderful marine animals, the cetaceans.
For an hour or more we will search for dolphins (dolphin watching) using marine mammal observer techniques and you can try your hand at this challenge. We will scan the horizon proceeding at a low cruising speed on a sailboat in search of a fin, a huff, a jump and every useful clue on the surface of the water that signals the presence of animals.
We will explain the behaviors of the cetaceans we observe and through the technique of photo-identification we will get important details about their lives. In addition, you can listen to the sounds of the sea using a hydrophone, a microphone normally used by marine biologists to study the bioacoustics of cetaceans and the noises of the marine environment.
This dolphin watching eco-tour will be full of relaxation and beauty: you will experience the sunrise in the Aeolian Islands, looking for dolphins and enjoying a delicious breakfast, while the wind will puff up the sails of our boat.

As an active member of the Dolphin SMART program, we do not have physical contact with the dolphins on Dolphin Watching and Breakfast at Dawn in the Aeolian Islands. We watch them in their natural habitat from the boat.
Dec 2022If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy.
