Overview

Auschwitz-Birkenau is a horrifying yet deeply educational place. Join DutchPoint Kraków on a tour of the camp where over 1.2 million people were killed, including approximately 60.000 Dutch and 24.000 Belgians.

During this 6-hour excursion (excluding travel time) with a Dutch-speaking guide, we will walk through Auschwitz I Museum, including a visit to the poignant Dutch barrack—Belgian guests will visit the Belgian barrack—and pass through a gas chamber. After a break, we will continue to the vast Birkenau site, where we will visit barracks that vividly depict the living conditions, as well as the remains of gas chambers II and III. We conclude the excursion at the Monowitz (Auschwitz III) memorial. Along the way, there will be opportunities to visit bookstores, and we will make five restroom stops.

Memorial and Museum Auschwitz I

Our excursion begins at Auschwitz I and takes you through the former camp, which is now a museum. Through photos and the original barracks, we will tell you the story from the first deportations to the liberation on January 27, 1945.80 minutes - transfer from Krakow to Oświęcim 15 minutes - restroom break / entry 150 minutes - visit to Auschwitz I

Memorial and Museum Auschwitz II-Birkenau

After a short break, we’ll take the bus to the Judenrampe, the spot between Auschwitz I and Birkenau where trains arrived, and people were selected. From there, we walk the same route as those who were taken to Birkenau. At Birkenau, we’ll visit the wooden barracks that give a clear view of the living conditions during the war years. We’ll walk past the train station toward the remains of gas chambers II and III. Afterward, we’ll visit the Dutch monument. Memoriale Auschwitz III (Monowitz)

After a short break, we will take the bus to Monowitz (Auschwitz III) and the Buna works. Upon arrival, we’ll tell you all about the immense factory complex established by the Nazis and the Monowitz camp they founded. Although the barracks are no longer visible, you will still see the factories and some remnants of bunkers that remain standing. Monowitz was the most grueling camp to work in, located about 10 kilometers from Auschwitz I.
