Around 535 meters long, the road starts at Praça D. Pedro IV and ends at Praça do Comércio.
It is a noble street with a commercial character. After the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755, an ordinance dated November 5, 1760 decreed the establishment of the city of Lisbon's goldsmiths along the road, which is why the street was named Rua Áurea.
