Praca da Figueira (Pass By)
In the 16th century, this square did not exist, with most of its area occupied by the Hospital Real de Todos os Santos, the most important in Lisbon.
After the great earthquake of 1755, which destroyed most of the city, the hospital was greatly damaged and was demolished around 1775.
The large area previously occupied by the hospital was turned into an open market square, and in the late 19th century, a large covered market was built. This market existed until 1949, when it was demolished.
