Aqueduto das Aguas Livres

Praca Marques do Pombal
Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo (1699-1782), who became known by the name Marquês de Pombal, was appointed Minister of the Kingdom by King José I. On November 1, 1755, a violent earthquake devastated the lower part of the city of Lisbon.
