National Palace of Queluz

The National Palace of Queluz was built from 1747 onwards, in the Rococo, Neoclassical and Baroque styles, designed by Mateus Vicente de Oliveira. Initially it was a summer stronghold for D. Pedro de Bragança. It became the residence of the Royal Family in the second half of the 18th and early 19th centuries. It was from here that the Royal Family left for Brazil fleeing Napoleon Bonaparte's troops and, as a consequence, the palace was looted. It was only inhabited again when D. Carlota Joaquina returned from Brazil. The National Palace of Queluz has many richly decorated rooms such as: Throne Room, Sculpture Room, Music Room, Smoking Room, Coffee Room, Lantern Room (or Dark Room), Açafatas Room, Porcelain and Earthenware Room , D. Quixote Room, among others. An additional highlight is the Corridor das Mangas, decorated with tiles by Francisco Jorge da Costa and panels by Manuel da Costa Rosado. Knowing Queluz is knowing something about Portuguese royalty.

Casa do Preto

Portuguese sweets are characterized by the fact that most of the sweets are composed of large amounts of sugar, egg yolks and almonds, having their origins in Portuguese convents and monasteries in the 16th century. Conventual sweets became more famous from the 15th century onwards, when sugar cane from the colonies began to be used. In addition to easy access to sugar, our country was one of the largest egg producers in Europe. The whites were exported and used as a clarifier in the production of white wine and to iron the suits of rich men. The municipality is home to several gastronomic specialties, with traditional sweets such as pillows and queijadas de Sintra being popular, an ancestral sweet whose origins date back at least to the Middle Ages. Feel invited to enjoy a Queijada or a Travesseiro + a coffee (espresso)

Quinta da Regaleira

Quinta da Regaleira is one of the most beautiful in the country. It is located in the historic center of Sintra and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is an incredible space with several buildings and a beautiful garden where it is possible to enter a world of symbolism, metaphors and references to Dante, Camões, the Order of Christ among others. One of the first records of the property dates back to 1697, when José Leite was its owner. It was then purchased, in 1715, by Francisco Albertini Guimarães de Castro who named it Quinta do Castro. Later, by Manoel Bernardo, then by Baronesa de Almeida and, in 1892, by Dr. António Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro who hired the renowned architect Luigi Manini to build the Palácio da Regaleira. The construction across the land was meticulously thought out and planned within Carvalho Monteiro's concept of life. The architectural styles of Quinta da Regaleira are Neo-Manueline. References to history such as Camões and Templars of the Order of Christ.

Centro Historico de Sintra

Sintra, a village located in the metropolitan area of Lisbon, stands out for its romantic-style buildings, which earned it the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a jagged topography, Sintra adds value to its buildings, archaeological sites, palaces, and sanctuaries that record the passing of the centuries of its occupation. Sintra is one of those places where the preservation of historical remains and the conservation of its vegetation coexist in complete harmony, where one reinforces the beauty of the other. On the narrow roads that lead to the main square, the buildings stand out for the plasticity of their colors and architecture. Traces of many eras mix among the shops and restaurants. The wonderful regional sweets "Queijadas" and "Travesseiros" are also manufactured and sold in the well-known pastry shops "Piriquita" and "Casa do Preto". The coming and going of tourists adds an extra charm with different languages, but with the same enthusiasm for observing beauty. Sintra is unparalleled.

Farol do Cabo da Roca

The Cabo da Roca Lighthouse is located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. It was built in stone in 1772, and is at the westernmost point of the European continent. A tombstone records the phrase of the greatest Portuguese writer, Luís de Camões, when he refers to the Lighthouse as: “Here… Where the land ends and the sea begins…”. Among the six lighthouses on the Portuguese coast, Cabo da Roca is the second oldest. The imposing Lighthouse, 165 meters high, built in 1772, the “power” of the Atlantic Ocean, reveals one of the most emblematic places in Portugal, a place of great importance in the period of Maritime expansion, with its stunning landscapes, it was restructured with sixteen lamps with parabolic reflectors powered by olive oil. Forty years later, Portugal's General Lighting and Lighting Plan authorized the use of electrical energy for its operation, which occurred in 1897. The view is fantastic over the Atlantic, the cliffs, the headlands.

Estrada do Guincho (Pass By)

Wedged between two rocky peaks, Ponta Alta and Ponta do Abano, is Guincho beach. The fact that it is located in the heart of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, very close to the mountains, gives it a unique touch: the wind that is felt there throughout almost the entire year makes this beach perfect for practicing extreme sports, such as surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. This is why Guincho beach is in the final of the national competition “Seven Wonders, Beaches of Portugal”, in the “Beach for sports use” category. Guincho is often the stage for European and world events in the area of wind-related sports, being one of the most sought after destinations for the best athletes. Along this road we find a variety of good restaurants, seafood restaurants and hotels.

Boca do Inferno

Visiting beautiful Cascais and not seeing the imposing rock formation of Boca do Inferno is missing one of the city's greatest surprises and beauties. Boca do Inferno is a formation associated with a cliff, which is located west of Cascais and is named after the ocean waves that hit the cliff face violently, forcing it into a system of caves and furiously pulverizing the land. impact to an opening higher up. Boca do Inferno is a cave where the waves crash, and where the Atlantic Ocean crashes before turning into a cauldron of foam. The rock formation has its own viewing platform and has been a favorite spot for storm watching for over a hundred years. In summer, waves plunge into the open cave, but during winter storms, the full force of the ocean is channeled into the abyss, giving rise to the rock formation's name.

Cascais

Located next to the sea and traditionally a fishing village, Cascais underwent important development in the 19th century. XIV, when it was a busy port of call for ships heading to Lisbon. However, it was from the 2nd half of the century onwards. In the 19th century, when sea bathing began to be popular, Cascais underwent a boost that transformed it into a very fashionable summer resort. The main driver of the transformation was the King of Portugal D. Luís I, who in 1870 converted the citadel fortress into the summer residence of the Portuguese monarchy. This example was followed by the nobility who built mansions and beautiful villas here where they spent the hottest time of the year, changing the old fishing village. Cascais also began to attract curious visitors, with the inauguration of the railway line between Pedrouços and Cascais in 1889. Nowadays, Cascais is a very lively and cosmopolitan town, which still retains its aristocratic air.

Casino Estoril

Located on the north coast of Lisbon, Estoril has become one of the most cosmopolitan places in Portugal since King Luís I chose this bay as his summer residence at the end of the 19th century. A short walk along the coast reveals the atmosphere of the time, with villages, mansions and fortresses that share an idyllic space. The first stone of Casino Estoril was laid in 1916, but its inauguration only took place in 1931. Founded by Fausto de Figueiredo, Casino Estoril began to be operated by José Teodoro dos Santos in 1958, through the company Estoril Sol. During the Second World War, as Portugal was a neutral country, Casino Estoril became a place frequented by spies and exiles, including members of some deposed royal families. In the 60s of the 20th century, the casino that had been built in the 30s was greatly expanded. After the death of Teodoro dos Santos in 1971, the concession remained in the family shareholder structure. Only in 1987, Estoril Sol passed to Stanley Ho.

Avenida Marginal

Avenida Marginal is a road with a cycle path and a promenade that connects Lisbon to Cascais, following along the Tagus River and then to the Atlantic Ocean for 30 km. Very popular at any time of the year by people who live in that area, and also by students from Universidade Nova School of Business and Economics, but more so in the summer as it runs alongside the beaches of Costa do Estoril. It is a very rich avenue from a cultural point of view as there are plenty of monuments, such as mansions, palaces and fortresses built in the distant past. On this avenue you can watch sunrises and sunsets next to the sea of unparalleled beauty.
