What To Expect
We are going to take a hiking route that crosses one of the most virgin stretches of coast. It is section 5 of Camí de Cavalls, which goes from Cala Tirant to Cala Binimel·là.
Distance: 9.48km, Positive gradient: 235m, Highest point: 47m, Lowest point: 1m, Difficulty: Medium-Low, Estimated duration: 5 hours.
Recognized by the European Union as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), the entire area is designated for its ecological importance. Within this segment, which is distinguished by its geological richness, explorers will find diverse natural habitats that have notable biodiversity. Among the various plant species that line the path, the “socarreles” stand out for their unique adaptation to the harsh environmental conditions marked by the predominant north winds.
Along the coasts of Tirant, Cavalleria and Binimellà you can see dune formations that support important plant communities. In particular, this area is of significant ornithological interest and is home to most of the island's breeding bird species, including the osprey.
