Cathedral of Como (Duomo)

Almost four hundred years were employed by the Como workers for the construction of the Cathedral, started in 1396, whose facade is still one of the most remarkable examples of late Gothic in northern Italy. Built to replace a previous structure, always dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, the works for its construction ended in the first half of the eighteenth century with the construction of the dome designed by Filippo Juvarra. Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo is a place of rare beauty. The splendid residence was commissioned at the end of the 1600s by the Marquis Giorgio Clerici, but it was with Gian Battista Sommariva, the next owner, that the villa reached its maximum splendor. In the mid-nineteenth century the property was donated to Carlotta of Prussia on the occasion of the wedding with George II of Sachsen-Meiningen; the latter, a botanical enthusiast, worked hard to enrich the vast landscaped garden. In April and May villa Carlotta offers an authentic sea of ​​multicolored azaleas, arranged in high rounded cushions along some paths.
