Project by Prof. António Reis, the Ponte do Freixo was built in an attempt to minimize the congestion to the automotive traffic experienced in the Pontes da Arrábida and Louis I, especially notorious since the late 1980s.

    The D. Maria Pia Bridge is a railway infrastructure that transported the North Line over the Douro River, between the towns of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, in northern Portugal.
