Djúpalónssandur The beach is famous for its rugged & dramatic beauty, as well as its fascinating history. In the past, Djúpalónssandur was a popular fishing spot for local Icelanders. The beach was also used as a testing ground for fishermen to prove their strength and ability to work on the boats. The fishermen would lift four large stones, with weights ranging from 23kg to 155kg, to show their strength. These stones, known as the "Lifting Stones," are still on the beach today and visitors can try to lift them as well.
