Established in 1861 by the Argiros family, the winery ceased operations in 1952 when Nikolaos A. Argyros, the third-generation owner, founded the Union of Cooperatives for Products of Thira, now known as SantoWines . In 1999, his son, Antonis N. Argyros, revitalized the historic site, transforming it into a unique establishment that combines a modern winery, an art gallery, and a wine museum. The winery is nestled within volcanic pumice rock caves, providing an ideal environment for wine maturation due to the natural insulation.
