Often the Scopello stacks represent the conclusion of a boat tour in the Zingaro Reserve. Founded in the 13th century, this trap became an important centre for bluefin tuna fishing and, in the latter part of its history, was owned by the Florio family. The fish processing plants were decommissioned at the beginning of the twentieth century and today the tuna trap is an open-air museum that offers a fascinating window into Sicily’s maritime past.
